How to Speed Up Animation on Your Android Phone

Your Android phone will seem faster after speeding up the animations

The Android operating system is popular due to its wide range of customization options. Unlike iOS, Android gives users access to customize various features. Whether you have a brand-new phone or your phone is old, if you are using an Android device, you can customize certain aspects based on your needs. Suppose you are using a phone that is a couple of years old and seems slow now, or you have bought a new phone and want to speed it up. By changing the animation speed on your phone, you will be able to make it feel smoother and faster. Additionally, you can even turn off animations, but this is not advisable as it may result in a less enjoyable user experience. Many tech-savvy people use these tricks, but unfortunately, most general users do not know how to speed up the animation on their Android phones. The main reason behind this is that this option is not directly available in the Android phone settings; rather, it is hidden within the developer mode. Since most general users do not know how to enable the developer mode or believe that only professional developers can use these features, they are unaware of this option. However, enabling developer mode does not require you to be a developer, and you can easily enable it on your Android phone. In this article, you will learn how to enable developer options and, from there, how to speed up the animation on your Android phone.

How to Enable Developer Options

To access the option to change the animation speed, you first need to enable developer options, which are not enabled by default on any Android phone. Follow the steps below:

  • Go to the Settings app.
  • Navigate to “About phone” and select it.
  • In the “About phone” section, locate the “Build Number” option and tap on it seven times to enable developer options. Note: On some devices, you may need to tap on the OS version instead of the build number.
  • In some devices, you may need to confirm the lock screen password.

  • Once you’ve tapped seven times, the developer mode will be enabled in the settings. Now, navigate to the developer options.
  • From the settings, go to “Additional settings” > “Developer options.” The location of developer options may vary based on the device. You can use the search bar in the settings to find “Developer Options.”

  • Now, turn on the developer options.

By enabling developer options, you can now access the option to speed up the animation. In the next section, you will learn how to do this.

How to Speed Up Animation

Assuming you’ve already enabled developer options using the steps above, follow these additional steps:

  • From “Developer Options,” go to “Drawing” by scrolling down.
  • Under the “Drawing” section, you will find three different animation scale settings: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. All three animation scales are set to 1x by default.
  • Now, change all three animation scales to 0.5x to speed up the animation. A smaller animation scale number indicates faster animation speed, and vice versa.

These three animation scales control different types of animations:

  • Window animation scale: controls the animation playback of the window.
  • Transition animation scale: controls the speed of transitions between pages. For example, transitioning from the home screen to the settings app and back to the home screen.
  • Animator duration scale: controls other animations of the phone, such as the notification shade, opening and closing apps, etc.

By changing the animation scale to 0.5x, you will make the animation speed of your phone twice as fast as before, resulting in a noticeable speed improvement.

Conclusion

Changing the animation speed may cause optimization issues on some phones, but without investigation, you cannot determine this. The best approach is to test each animation scale change and revert to default settings if any issues arise.
